What To Wear For Your Engagement Session

So it’s engagement session season and I know our calendar is filling up with folks who want to get some good Save The Date cards sent out. Probably the most common question  my couples ask me is what should they wear for their engagement photos. Here are our five simple tips I share with them.

Wear Clothes That Make You Feel Like You

If you guys are jeans and t-shirt folks do that. If you are business casual or super dressy do that. Be who you are in your photos. Too often couples want to get very dressy when the occasion doesn’t have to call for it. Nothing makes a photo shine more than authenticity.

Heck in a few months I’m going to take hundreds of photos of you guys dressed to the nines so my advice is use your engagement session to celebrate your everyday.

Complimenting Works Better Than Matching

Select a color scheme rather than forcing yourselves to match. This gives you more room for individual expression.

You don’t have to match each other, and in fact that makes your photo slightly flatter. Complimenting color schemes add visual interest and make your photos pop more. It also gives each of you a little more room for individual expression. Work together for a cohesive look rather than being exactly the same.

Think About Accessories

Our engagement sessions allow you any number of outfit changes in your session, however you don’t want to spend most of your session time fussing through outfits. You also don’t want a whole session based on the one look. That’s where accessories can help.

Accessories can really add visual punch to an outfit and easily increase the number of looks you can quickly get to. A nice chunky necklace, a beautiful colorful scarf or even a broach can just add so much visual interest, And they aren’t just for women, an ornate belt buckle, a cowboy hat or favorite cap or even your splashy watch can really help the guys pop.

Opt for Classic Rather Than Trendy Looks

You want your engagement photos to be forever photos so while you may love that lime green maxi dress right now, maybe you don’t want to look back in a few years and wonder why you were dressed as a margarita? Express yourself with pieces you like that are classics and you’ll love your engagement pictures forever.

Think About the Season

Take advantage of the weather and location!

Bikinis won't work for most locations in January, and a cowl neck scarf doesn't work in June typically. Take advantage of the season you're in by styling a look that's in tune with the climate and location.

Ok guys, see you next week!
